Mr. Rally and Lightning finish each job, starting with Task #1, completing the job, and moving on to the next task. Each job completion ends with "Good job, Mr. Rally! Good job, Lightning!" as an example of positive recognition when tasks are completed. (Hint to parents.)

Each pages has an average of a dozen words, and often are Mr. Rally and Lightning's mantra/slogan, "Dig up rocks and dig up clay! Dig up dirt and dig all day!" When they're not repetitive words, they're appropriate vocabulary for the pre-school toddler.

In spite of the benefits mentioned so far, this isn't just a book for teaching your child these concepts - it's a book for entertaining your child.

It's learning wrapped up into a flowing, goal-oriented storyline, that a parent can lead their child through without them losing interest.

In fact, you can create a little suspense with each reading to see if your child remembers the next task that Mr. Rally and Lightning need to tackle.

At the end of their day - a surprise awaits the reader. Mr. Rally and Lightning drive home in their backhoe home after completing Task #5 and we find that their digging isn't done. Does more work await them? Or is it play?
